How to Choose the Perfect Wardrobe for Your Bedroom

Sliding or hinged? Loft storage or not? A practical checklist before you finalise your bedroom wardrobe.

Your wardrobe is one of the highest-usage pieces of furniture in your home, so getting the layout right matters more than getting the finish right. Before you pick a colour or material, start with how you actually dress and store.

Sliding shutters are the better choice for compact bedrooms since they don't need swing clearance, while hinged wardrobes give you full-width access to every shelf and are usually more budget-friendly for smaller widths.

Plan your internals in three zones: a hanging zone for shirts, kurtas and dresses; a shelving zone for folded clothes and linen; and a drawer zone for innerwear, accessories and jewellery. A dedicated loft on top is ideal for out-of-season storage — bags, quilts and suitcases.

For finishes, laminate is durable and budget-friendly, PU finish gives a rich matte look with a higher price point, and veneer suits a warmer, more traditional interior. Whichever you choose, always ask for soft-close hinges and channels — it is a small cost that changes how the wardrobe feels every single day.

At Crystal Modular, we design every wardrobe around a client walkthrough of their actual clothing and storage habits before we touch a single drawing — because the best wardrobe is the one you never have to fight with.
